This could be a memorable evening at the Theatre of Marcellus where African Ring and Golden Gloves will presentg a box-and-dine tournament in which ordinary fans will be replaced by men in tuxedos and women in evening gowns at Emperors Palace.
The promoters in charge of the event, Jeff Ellis and Rodney Berman, have dubbed this tournament "The separation of boys from men".
Several prospects eager to showcase their potential will be featured: Grant Fourie, Ashley Dlamini, Johnny Muller, Robbie Lombard and Deon Coetzee.
Three old horses, Ronnie Lategan, Steven Castle and Ben Monareng will want to show they are still forces to be reckoned with. Undefeated after nine fights in the lightweight division, "Fireball" Fourie is expected to emphasise his potential after a controversial split-decision victory over Danile Botman last month.
Fourie will fight Amos Nhlapho over eight rounds. Nhlapho has one win, six defeats and two draws.
Dlamini of Mpumalanga is a seven-time SA junior featherweight champion - he is also an All Africa Games bronze medallist and three-time Zone 6 champion with 192 wins (75 KOs) from 212 amateur fights - will fight Sibusiso Khumalo.
Muller, a promising heavyweight, has stopped two of his victims since he turned pro last year. He will fight Lombard, who lost his debut against Stephen Castle in May. Coetzee will fight Castle. Warhorse Lategan should not find it hard to sweep Ben Monareng aside. Lategan has nine wins and seven losses while Monareng will be fighting for the first time since 2007.
