THE National Union of Mineworkers says it has long called for a technical audit to be conducted at mines in order to prevent fatalities.

THE National Union of Mineworkers says it has long called for a technical audit to be conducted at mines in order to prevent fatalities.

This comes after three miners were killed yesterday at Rustenburg's Impala Platinum mine in the North West.

Former president Thabo Mbeki ordered an investigation on health and safety at the mines back in 2007. The report, which came out last February, showed that 66 percent of mines complied with safety requirements. - Getrude Makhafola
