TEHRAN - Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned the "enemies" of the Islamic republic that the people will resist any attempt to destabilise the country.

In a speech, carried on state television yesterday, the nation's most powerful man again accused foreign nations of interference in the crisis over last month's hotly disputed presidential election.

Khamenei's address comes just three days after a hard-hitting speech by former president and powerful cleric Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, who said the regime had lost the people's trust after the election. - Sapa-AFP
