FAIR PRICE Furniture and Appliance finally agreed to give two clients a refund for defective furniture.

FAIR PRICE Furniture and Appliance finally agreed to give two clients a refund for defective furniture.

Freddy Mokgethi and Baxolile Mtetwa battled from February to July last year to get redress from Fair Price, without luck.

They approached Consumer Line and within an hour their problems were solved .

Mokgethi will get his R8000 back and Mtetwa will have her R4000 refunded.

Mokgethi bought a lounge suite for his mother for her birthday. He paid the full amount plus a R270 delivery fee, but the sofas were not delivered on the agreed date.

When they finally arrived they were broken. He notified the store but the goods were not collected, so he transported them back to their branch at Southgate himself. He said the replacement arrived, but was broken too.

The store manager, who introduced himself as Hassem, offered a refund of R7000 because he said he had sold the sofa at a discount. But Mohamed Moolla from head office agreed to give Mokgethi a refund after Consumer Line intervened.

Mtetwa bought a wardrobe at Fair Price Furniture and Appliance's Hillbrow branch in February 2008. She says she collected it herself and noticed that the it was defective. The keys were not locking and the drawers did not open easily and were overlapping and the one side of the wardrobe looked cracked and glued together, she says.

Moolla ignored her many letters, but agreed to give her a refund after Consumer Line intervened.
