JUST 10 minutes after executive mayor of the Mopani district municipality Joshua Matlou was inaugurated he was joined by his entire entourage on a trip to Mookone village, where they had built a house for an indigent family.

Matlou was joined by mayors from five local municipalities of the district and Limpopo MEC for local government and housing Soviet Lekganyane.

The house was built after the district was ordered by former president Kgalema Motlanthe to help the family and to ensure that the head of the family received an old-age grant.

This was after the family had pleaded with the former president to build them a house because they had no proper shelter.

Motlanthe had visited the area during the election campaign in April and had had one-on-one discussions with families and local leaders about service delivery issues.

The family of seven was living in an old, dilapidated two-roomed mud house.

Head of the family Pulane Rabothata said with a broad smile: "Today my life and those of my family have changed dramatically.

"Just a month after the former president promised to change my life I received my old-age grant and I am now able to put bread on the table for my family ... and now this.

"Thanks to Matlou and his government for bringing Motlanthe to my house. Since then my life has changed for the better."
