A capacity crowd is expected at the original Peter Mokaba Stadium after the organisers announced yesterday that tickets for the match had been sold out.
There were fears that the match, which kicks off at 3pm, might be played to empty seats after only 3500 tickets were sold on Tuesday. Pirates arrived in Polokwane yesterday and had an afternoon training session.
The new recruits, who were part of a 29-member Bucs squad that travelled to the Limpopo capital, were Gert Schalkwyk, Ndumiso Mabena, Andile Jali, Phenyo Mongala and Cameroonian attacking midfielder Frank Olivier.
Olivier signed with Pirates during the January transfer window but was not registered with the PSL because of the quota system.
Also in the Pirates squad for the match are Dennis Masina and Congolese attacker Blaise Kiaku, who are yet to sign on the dotted line at Parktown. Masina is coming in on a swap deal in which Pirates will offload unsettled forward Rudzani Ramudzuli to Absa Premiership champions SuperSport United.
City manager Mark Hughes will also use the tournament to assess his new players, who include Carlos Tevez. The Argentinian was signed from Manchester United this week. Robinho will be part of the team only for the final on July 25. City will rely on Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Bucs will miss Benson Mhlongo, Teko Modise, Katlego Mashego and Innocent Mdledle. Dikgang Mabalane and Siphelele Mthembu could prove to be a handful for the visitors.
City will entertain Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Tuesday. Chiefs meet Pirates in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.
