But it appears that Mbesuma will not spend much longer in the world of the unemployed after Moroka Swallows expressed interest in giving him a chance to breathe new life into his flagging career.
Swallows supremo Leon Prins admires the former Kaizer Chiefs hitman and believes he can add value at the Birds nest.
"I don't doubt his capability as a player," Prins said yesterday. "We are close to signing him."
Prins is still loath to reveal the identity of their German coach.
But the Birds boss was over the moon about the return of lanky striker Lungisani Ndlela.
He has returned to the aviary on a two-season deal.
Ndlela rattled the net 19 times in 35 starts and while the supporters were happy with the player's scoring ability, Ndlela was a miserable man. He made the startling revelation that he was being paid a paltry R2000 a month.
"I'm excited we have finalised a deal with Lungisani and I strongly believe that he will help us to compete for honours next season.
"The position that we finished on last season was unacceptable," Prins said.
The Nedbank Cup kings finished 11th in the standings and thus failed to qualify for the lucrative MTN8 Cup that carries R8million prize money.
