LIMPOPO MEC for local government and housing SovietLekganyane has fulfilled his promise to extend service delivery to poor people in the province.
This happened whenLekganyane unveiled an electricity project at Bende-Mutale village, north of Musina, this week.
The MEC on Tuesday travelled more than 300km from his headquarters in Polokwane to the Masisi area of the Vhembe district for the electricity switch-on ceremony.
The initiative was undertaken by the government in conjunction with Eskom.
The provincial department spent R1,3million on the project, while Eskom presented needy families with electrical appliances.
The locals , who have been relying on solar systems since the establishment of the settlement, applauded Lekganyane for the development.
Bende-Mutale is still backward in terms of infrastructure development and the villagers have pleaded with other provincial departments to visit them to help better their lives.
Perched uncomfortably on a rocky plateau, the close-knit community comprises rickety mud structures and state-sponsored RDP houses.
Bende-Mutale, which is very near to Kruger National Park, lacks proper sanitation facilities, while primary healthcare remains achallenge.
Lekganyane said a total of 107 households would benefit from the project. This includes 99-year-old Manganyi Njakanjaka.
