Beauties with grey matter

South African women are fast becoming forces to be reckoned with internationally.

South African women are fast becoming forces to be reckoned with internationally.

This is apparent from the way international beauty brands have moved in to grab our girls as brand ambassadors.

Actress Connie Ferguson was South Africa's face of L'Oreal's Garnier Even Perfect range, model Lerato Moloi was the first black face of Elizabeth Arden's local products and actress Terry Pheto also stole the attention of the big brands.

Recently former Miss South Africa and Top Billing presenter Jo-Ann Strauss was scooped up. The motivational speaker and respected businesswoman became South Africa's face of the new Lux body wash range.

She joined local beauties such as Destiny magazine founder Khanyi Dhlomo, television personality Robyn Poole, model Tanya Fourie and former Miss South Africa Wilma van der Bijl, who were all Lux ambassadors.

South African beauties have brains too. Strauss holds a BCom Law and is currently writing her MBA. She is a passionate campaigner against child abuse and the rights of all people to education, housing and health.

Lux spokesperson Ethne Whitley said: "Long acknowledged as a beauty with brains, Jo-Ann's success shows that you can have it all - looks, glamour and intelligence."
