THERE was a time when I could not write an introduction of a Volvo story without mentioning my father.

THERE was a time when I could not write an introduction of a Volvo story without mentioning my father.

This was not because my father owned a Volvo but simply because he adored and still adoreS the brand.

But I have discovered the beauty of the Scandinavian brand myself. Thanks to my long-term S40 2.0 diesel that has been a great pleasure to drive over the past two months.

One of the best attributes of the Volvo brand is its interior layout. The cabin bears attention to detail that really soothes the driver on long distance drives.

The Volvo S40 is one of the best cars on our roads. It was not surprising that after two months of driving it I have not had a breakdown. The 4-cylinder turbodiesel is linked to a six-speed powershift.

The one thing I found irritating was the noise that this diesel engine produces.

Having said that, it does not make the S40 2.0D a bad car. The S40 diesel is actually one of the most difficult cars to test on a long-term basis. It gave me no drama over two months I had it.

I do not expect to have any since this is a reliable brand. The 2.0D powershift produces power output of 100kW and torque of 320Nm.

The exterior design is simple but has the presence of a diva. So far so good, the S40 has manners.
