PROFITS at BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the British Broadcasting Corporation, almost halved.

PROFITS at BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the British Broadcasting Corporation, almost halved.

This after write-offs relating to the collapse of retailer Woolworths and a decision by the competition authorities to block a potentially lucrative video-on-demand venture.

The broadcaster said yesterday that it was now suspending bonuses for its 10 senior executives indefinitely and reviewing executive salaries.

BBC Worldwide, which markets shows such as Dancing with the Stars and owns travel publisher Lonely Planet, said net profit fell to £40,8million in the year ended March 31, from £77,6million in the previous year. - AFP
