TIME is closing in on the Nelspruit organised crime unit and their station commander, under threat of being dismissed after confiscated drugs were stolen on their watch at the beginning of this month.

TIME is closing in on the Nelspruit organised crime unit and their station commander, under threat of being dismissed after confiscated drugs were stolen on their watch at the beginning of this month.

Captain Leonard Hlathi said provisional commissioner Rex Machabi had given the police unit 30 days - from July 3 - to recover the drugs or else they would be fired.

The drugs, worth more than R3,5million, were allegedly transported across the Lebombo border by a 35-year-old suspect whose court case was remanded in the Komatipoort periodical court yesterday - to July 28.

He was arrested on June 25 for being found in possession of 75000 mandrax tablets. - Sapa
