New Park for Orlando residents

RESIDENTS of Orlando West in Soweto will soon have their own state-of-the-art park.

RESIDENTS of Orlando West in Soweto will soon have their own state-of-the-art park.

The R10million facility is expected to open at the end of the month. The yet to be named multi- purpose park consists of a soccer field, children's play park, braai facilities, tennis and netball courts.

Johannesburg city parks Soweto zone manager Lunga Ncapai said: "We are building the park for the community to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle and to upgrade Soweto."

He said the park was among the more than 79 developed parks in the township built by city parks.

"As at all our parks alcohol will not be allowed in this park ," Ncapai said.

He said the park would be guarded by security rangers, who also guard other parks, to deter vandalism.

Residents in the area have welcomed the park.

Thomas Mashaba said the community had asked for speed humps because children usually use the road as a playground.

Now, Mashaba said, the facility would keep the children entertained.
