THE Limpopo department of roads and transport will construct two new testing stations to reduce licence backlogs.
MEC Pinkie Kekana confirmed that her department has acquired land for the construction of K53 drivers' licence testing centres in the Aganang and Fetakgomo local municipalities.
She also said the Mokopane, Moutse and Thohoyandou traffic stations will be completed during this financial year at a cost of R30million.
The department has over the years been dogged by fraud and corruption scandals relating to the issuing of bogus driving licences.
"Fraud and corruption in driver licensing is being tackled on all fronts.
"To date we can confirm that we have individuals facing criminal charges because of their involvement in these nefarious activities," Kekana said.
"Some are already doing their terms with the Department of Correctional Services."
Kekana said they are working to embrace the coordination of a modernised integrated traffic management information system to improve service delivery.
"A centralised software system has the advantage of improving data integrity, low cost in maintenance, cost effective implementation of new features and allowing easier interface with other systems," she said.
The new testing stations will be well-equipped with a centralised learner and driver licence booking system, user-friendly interface, an easy method of payment and improved auditing, said Kekana.
Meanwhile traffic authorities have entered into an agreement with the South African Post Office and 11 post office branches have been registered to render services for the renewal of vehicle licences.
