Vorster, who is studying in the United States, ended the swimming competition on Saturday night on a high note for Team South Africa by grabbing a bronze medal.
She achieved the feat in the 400m freestyle final to win South Africa's only medal in swimming.
Early last week, Vorster was part of the 4x100m freestyle team that set a new national record of 3min:48,24sec.
Prior to that, the Polokwane-born Vorster smashed the 200m freestyle record to clock 1:59,55.
On her arrival in Serbia two weeks ago, Vorster told Sowetan that she won't go back to the University of Arizona empty handed.
"It feels great to walk away with a medal, bronze is better than nothing," said Vorster, who is now targeting another medal at the Commonwealth Games in India next year.
Said swimming coach Cedric Finch: "We would have loved to win more medals despite bringing a team of young swimmers because the seniors are off to Rome for the World Championships."
At the time of going to press late yesterday, Team South Africa had won seven medals - two gold, two silver and three bronze.
Sibabalwe Mzazi (10000m) and Sunette Viljoen (javelin) clinched the two gold medals.
Isabel Le Roux (200m) and Lehann Fourie (110m hurdles) each won a silver medal, while Thuso Mpuang (200m), Lungisa Mdedelwa (10000m) and Vorster each got bronze.
Sanele Madlala, University Sport South Africa president, said they were happy that the 173-member delegation to Serbia did not disappoint at the Games.
