Swine flu cases IN sa now total 66

THE number of confirmed cases of swine flu in South Africa has risen to 66, said the Department of Health yesterday.

THE number of confirmed cases of swine flu in South Africa has risen to 66, said the Department of Health yesterday.

Department spokesperson Fidel Hadebe said Northern and Western Cape had confirmed cases recently.

Hadebe said a large number of the cases were linked to a university sports event in Johannesburg. All the cases were mild and the department would continue to monitor the situation.

The department advised those who displayed flu-like symptoms within seven days of being in contact with someone with swine flu - or travelling abroad - to seek medical help.

The department said that in line with the World Health Organisation's recent advisory, the increase in the number of cases globally was inevitable.

According to SABC news, about 22 members of the South African Youth Choir were stranded yesterday at Dubai International Airport after they were advised not to board a flight to Seoul, Korea, because of an outbreak of swine flu. They were due to take part in an international choral competition.
