'I did not fire my trainer'

PHILLIP Ndou says it is hogwash that his trainer Micky Castellan was fired a few hours before his fight with Lovemore Ndou at Emperors Palace on Saturday night.

PHILLIP Ndou says it is hogwash that his trainer Micky Castellan was fired a few hours before his fight with Lovemore Ndou at Emperors Palace on Saturday night.

"Micky was supposed to work in the corner but he did not do so. So he fired himself", explained Ndou, whose corner was manned by Welcome Ncita, Thembeni Tsele and Chairman Tofi (all from Eastern Cape).

"We had an agreement after my first comeback fight in France that he would be my physical trainer, and Welcome Ncita will take over as tactician before any fight. Micky agreed," Ndou revealed.

Attempts yesterday to get a comment from Castellan, a former professional fighter, drew a blank.

l Arturo Gatti, 37, a competent fighter from Canada, was found dead in Brazil on Saturday. It was reported that Gatti, a former IBF super featherweight, WBC junior welterweight and IBA welterweight champion, was on a second honeymoon with his wife and a baby son. His blood-stained body was found in an apartment in Porto de Galinhas.
