'Chiefs coach a big catch'

SOUTH African soccer giants Kaizer Chiefs have landed a capable man, Serbian coach Vladimir Vermezovic, in their bid relive their glory days.

SOUTH African soccer giants Kaizer Chiefs have landed a capable man, Serbian coach Vladimir Vermezovic, in their bid relive their glory days.

This is according to former Serbian player, Velkjo Nedic, who was coached by Vermezovic at FC Partizan, who won the domestic league here at the end of last season.

The 44-year-old Vermezovic is a respected coach in Serbia. He joined Amakhosi last month following the departure of Muhsin Ertugral to Ajax Cape Town.

"I have been following your football since we started with the qualifiers for the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The arrival of Bernard Parker here has also generated a lot of interest about your country," said Nedic.

"When I heard that Kaizer Chiefs have appointed Vladimir as their head coach, I was happy because the man is used to doing well when he is in charge of the technical staff.

"He coached me about 14 years ago at FC Partizan. One thing I like about him is that he believes in team work. Vladimir is not a coach who wants to do everything himself. He also empowers people working with him. The other thing that makes him a great coach is that he is highly involved in all the development structures. He also attends training sessions and games of all the age groups.

"Chiefs must just give him time to settle down, then they will smile this season because the man will win them trophies. FC Partizan are one of the top clubs because of the contribution of people like Vladimir."

Nedic is serving as a volunteer at the 25th World Student Games, driving the University Sport South Africa team.

With Serbia on the verge of qualifying for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals, Nedic is planning to visit South Africa next year. Serbia will play a friendly against Bafana Bafana on August 12.
