She died at Wilgers Hospital in Pretoria of lung cancer aged 70.
"It is a very, very sad day," said advocate Johann Engelbrecht SC, with whom Labuschagne worked on several cases, including that of Skierlik shooter Johan Nel and Najwa Petersen.
Labuschagne gave him the waistcoat her stepfather had had tailor-made when he became Judge President of the Cape.
Labuschagne was among the first criminologists ever to participate in the sentencing process and her mentor was Justice Richard Goldstone.
She is survived by her husband "Lappies"a son and a daughter. - Sapa
