POLICE yesterday shot dead a suspect wanted in connection with the killing of a student police constable in Marianhill near Durban.

A gun battle broke out with two suspects when police stormed a house at Mpophomeni in the Midlands. The suspect was shot dead and his alleged accomplice was wounded and taken to hospital.

They were being investigated for gunning down Nkululeko Chagwe, 24, on Sunday, said police spokesperson Vincent Mdunge.

Chagwe was shot dead while pursuing suspects involved in an armed robbery in Pinetown. He died on the scene.

Six men have been arrested. Mdunge said the first suspect was arrested on Sunday after Chagwe was killed.
