Scopa in angry mood

MEMBERS of Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts had harsh words for government officials yesterday, accusing them of arrogance and giving "clumsy" answers to questions on a report by the Auditor-General.

MEMBERS of Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts had harsh words for government officials yesterday, accusing them of arrogance and giving "clumsy" answers to questions on a report by the Auditor-General.

Scopa had been questioning directors-general from provinces and national departments on the report, released in August last year, on entities linked to state employees doing business with national departments.

The report found that 46 state employees did not have approval to do business with national departments but that R35,7 million was paid out to these firms. - Sapa
