Party in crisis

THE denialism within the Congress of the People has come to a head. The party is in a crisis. The sooner its leaders appreciate it the better.

THE denialism within the Congress of the People has come to a head. The party is in a crisis. The sooner its leaders appreciate it the better.

The party's voice is absent in any of the political, social and economic debates taking place. There is simply no leadership.

The fact that more than 1,4million people entrusted their hopes to Cope a mere 140-odd days after its founding shows just how much South Africans had cried out for a credible, black-led opposition to ensure that the ANC's expectations to become all-powerful were kept in check.

The numbers alone say that there is enough goodwill among South Africans to sustain a party such as Cope had purported to be.

It is important that Cope leaders swallow their pride and put their supporters' voices ahead of their egos. If they cannot, they should do the honourable thing and close shop.
