IN ITS quest to fight crime, the SAPS has appointed veteran policeman Richard Mdluli as Divisional Commissioner of the police's crime intelligence division.

IN ITS quest to fight crime, the SAPS has appointed veteran policeman Richard Mdluli as Divisional Commissioner of the police's crime intelligence division.

The post had been vacant for more than a year.

Mdluli was a deputy provincial commissioner in Gauteng before he took his new post on July 1.

National police spokesperson Sally de Beer said Mdluli joined the police in August 1979 and was immediately placed in the detective environment.

She said Mdluli worked his way up through the ranks as an investigator, detective branch commander and also served as an officer in crime intelligence.

De Beer said he is a competent leader, able to motivate members under his command and lead by example as an experienced investigator.

She said Mdluli has a BTech in Policing degree and is married with three children.

"Commissioner Mdluli has proved himself to be an invaluable asset," said acting National Commissioner Tim Williams.
