storm brewing in boxing ring

WHAT happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

WHAT happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

This question will be answered on Saturday night at the imposing Emperors Palace when Jared "The Storm" Lovett and Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen clash in the light heavyweight division over 10 rounds.

Promoter Rodney Berman announced that the fighters would contest the unique IBO Youth title for fighters under the age of 24.

Lovett and Oosthuizen are both 22.

Sowetan journalists were almost decapitated for asking to take a photo of the two together after their pre-fight medical, because their trainers Collin Nathan and Harold Volbrecht feared that a bare-knuckle brawl could ensue between the two hammer-fisted behemoths.

The two fighters from the east and south of Johannesburg, are sworn enemies.

But they agreed to appear together after some persuasion.

Reputations are on the line as each boxer boasts an identical undefeated record after six fights, all the wins coming by way of knockout.

Thunder rumbled and bullets were loaded as they were given the opportunity to address each other at the pre-fight press conference.

"I'm going teach you a free boxing lesson," Lovett said.

"Fancy words won't help you," Oosthuizen responded.

Lovett is so confident of victory that he declared he would retire should he lose on Saturday night.

"Hang up your gloves now then," was the quick-fire retort from Oosthuizen.

This fight promises to be one of the focal points in an evening showcasing immense boxing talent, which forms part of Berman's Triple Thunder bill.

Meanwhile, Eastern Cape fighter Simphiwe "V12" Vetyeka vowed to do better than former stablemate Silence Mabuza when he takes on Filipino fighter Eric Barcelona for the vacant IBO bantamweight belt.

Mabuza secured a unanimous points victory over Barcelona in 2004.

The main attraction pits two elephants against each other, when Phillip "Time Bomb" Ndou takes on Lovemore "The Black Panther" Ndou (no relation) for the IBO welterweight title. Phillip shot his mouth off while a cool-headed Lovemore pointed out that Phillip's trash-talking merely revealed his fear of their coming bout.

Berman believes that this event, sponsored by Gree Air Conditioners, will be one of the biggest in South African boxing history.
