Robinho and Elano may miss city trip

MANCHESTER City have confirmed that a decision is yet to be taken regarding the participation of Robinho and Elano in the coming Vodacom Challenge.

MANCHESTER City have confirmed that a decision is yet to be taken regarding the participation of Robinho and Elano in the coming Vodacom Challenge.

Both stars featured for the Confederations Cup-winning Brazilian side in South Africa last month.

"While it is fair to say that both need a break, the club has still not made a firm decision about whether they will be in South Africa or not for the Vodacom Challenge," media officer Sam Cook told FullCircle Sport.

City striker and Zimbabwe captain Benjani Mwaruwari will make the trip.

"Benjani is still part of the team, and there have been no developments regarding any move," Cook said.

"The Citizens" are in Germany, where they will play against 1860 Munich in a friendly before leaving for South Africa.

Manager Mark Hughes is looking forward to a rigorous programme.

"There are a number of top-class tournaments in the summer and for us to be invited to this one is a feather in our cap," he said on the club's website.

"I played in South Africa in the 1990s and the games with Chiefs and Pirates were always competitive and the crowds big and noisy. The people really impressed me with their love for the sport.

"There is no real time difference so we are not compromised with changing time zones. We should be jet lag-free. That is a bonus and the climate will be in our favour too because they will still be in their winter."
