BRITISH luxury clothing company Hackett is looking to expand in South Africa despite a downturn in the retail sector.

The company will soon open two stores in Sandton City in Johannesburg and at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town as it looks to increase its footprint and build its brand in South Africa. It already operates a store at the OR Tambo International Airport which opened in November.

Said Moosa Mayet, Hackett SA general manager, on the response to the high-end brand thus far: "It's been excellent. The brand follows the tradition of British style without being old fashioned."

Moosa said high-end brands like Hackett fared much better than traditional retailers during a recession. Hackett operates in 25 countries worldwide. - Adele Shevel
