Gospel queen to be celebrated

THE life of gospel queen Rebecca Malope will be celebrated next month at a glittering gathering at the Jesus Dome in Durban.

Malope, 41, has sold more than 3,7million records - more than any other South African artist - and has earned more than R30million in CD sales alone.

She has released more than 30 albums and has been honoured with shelves of awards.

Broadcasters, the World Gospel PowerHouse and industry stakeholders will be gathering to salute her achievements at the celebration on August 7.

Malope rose to international stardom in the late 1990s.

Over the years, Malope has been known as South Africa's "Queen of Gospel", but she has also touched audiences worldwide. She sings mostly her own compositions, and has toured in the UK and released a few records in the US with great success.

l Sbu Buthelezi, spokesperson for World Gospel PowerHouse, said that the third gospel music conference, Iziko, would be held in Johannesburg this year. "We call on all gospel artists, musicians, keyboard players, worship teams from churches, pastors and all the people who play a role in the industry to attend this conference.

"Iziko is a platform for all key stakeholders in the gospel music industry to get together and share and process information, make plans, learn from each other and polish their craft," he said.
