FASHION ON DISPLAY

THOUGH most who attended felt this year's Vodacom July at the Greyville Racecourse in Durban on Saturday was much scaled down, celebrities and the fashion elite were out in full force.

This year's theme was The Games People Play - and fashionistas came dressed to the nines.

For the fashion conscious, the theme was easily translated to their outfits, even the marquees resembled casinos and board games, but some failed to impress.

The weather was cloudy but that did not stop A-list celebrities and businesspeople from attending one of the highlights of Mzansi's most fashionable fete.

Let's get into who wore what.

I saw a very visible Live presenter, Bonang Matheba, in a tasteful baseball-inspired red-and- white assembly by Diamond Face Couture and Generations actress Sophie Ndaba in a striking red hip-hop dress that had no tie-in with the theme.

President Jacob Zuma was there with two of his three wives.

MaKhumalo's stylist is doing a great job.

I thought she had outdone herself in that turquoise dress.

Second wife MaNtuli also looked good in a champagne outfit of raw silk and hessian.

Gerry Elsdon wore a beautiful turquoise dress but was uninspired by the theme.

So was Nhlanhla Nciza, who wore a gold- and-black gown that would have been perfect for the SA Music Awards.

But it was former Miss SA Tansey Coetzee who frightened many with a tasteless, uninspiring orange dress.

Had the fashion police been present they would have arrested her on the spot.

Spotted Miss South Africa Tatum Keshwar looking frilly in a sheer white outfit. She's everywhere ...

As usual Precious Motsepe was better dressed than her husband Patrice.

Durban's DJ Siyanda seems to be glued to his white outfit since he got married and one hopes for his sake that he has more than one white suit. One can only imagine the amount of bleach his wife has to use on it.

DJ Sbu Leope wore the same velvet blue jacket I've seem him wearing to all Jozi events.

Black seemed to be the colour of choice, with a number of guys wearing tasteful tuxedos with a touch of casino games. Selimathinzi's Kaos and Stone Seete were among those and they counted among the best dressed males.

Other highlights were Noni Gasa and Uyanda Mbuli, who also chose black.

But it was Uyanda's black-and-turquoise dress with a chessboard-inspired hat and dice accessories that stole the show as the best dressed and most inspired ensemble for this year's Durban July.

She needs to hit the gym very soon, though, to get rid of that boep.
