THE ANC's Moses Mabhida region has denied allegations it approached officials in the Msuduzi municipality to fund a party rally in Pietermaritzburg.

THE ANC's Moses Mabhida region has denied allegations it approached officials in the Msuduzi municipality to fund a party rally in Pietermaritzburg.

Municipal manager Rob Haswell, deputy municipal manager for finance Roy Bridgmohan and speaker Alpha Shelembe are accused of authorising R1million for the Nkosi Mlaba Cultural Day on January 19 - although the event was an ANC rally.

ANC regional secretary Super Zuma denied that the party had asked municipal officials to raise funds for a party rally.

"The rallies were funded by the ANC provincial office. We have decided not to comment as the issue is the subject of an investigation."

DA MP Mark Steele said at the weekend that his party had "relevant documentation" to back up the allegations. Steele has met KwaZulu-Natal's auditor-general Herman van Zyl and handed over the information.
