"Three policemen were on duty looking for criminals who were involved in an armed robbery in Pinetown when they were shot at by men who were in a shack,'' said Superintendent Vincent Mdunge.
He said Constable Chakwe, 24, was shot in the mouth and he died on the scene on Sunday afternoon.
Mdunge said police believed the men who shot Chakwe were members of the gang responsible for armed robberies in Pinetown.
The man arrested for the attack will appear in the Pinetown magistrate's court today. - Sapa
