Fans had to register on the Staples Centre website on Saturday for the random drawing of only 8750 names.
Each person selected was due to receive two tickets and be notified by e-mail after 11am yesterday, according to a Staples Centre news release. The tickets will admit 11000 people to the Staples Center plus 6500 to the Nokia Theater next door.
Before the drawing officials of AEG, owner and operator of the Staples Centre, will "scrub" the entries to eliminate duplicates and any suspected of being made by automated systems or "go-bots", Jackson family spokesperson Ken Sunshine said.
Winners were due to receive a unique code and instructions on how to pick up their tickets today.
When they pick up their tickets a wristband was due to be placed on their wrists.
Fans must have both the ticket and wristband to enter Staples Centre tomorrow.
City officials are preparing for huge crowds.
Assistant Police Chief Earl Paysinger says about 700000 people might try to reach the arena though a wide area around the centre will be sealed off to people without tickets.
City councilwoman Jan Perry strongly urged people to stay at home and watch the memorial on television.
