RHYTHM CITY - the top TV soapie - celebrates its second anniversary on Thursday.

First aired on July 9 2007, the soapie, which is produced by Curious Pictures, has seen tremendous growth over the past two years, breaking the e.tv soapie viewership records with 14,5 ARs, the equivalent of 3,5million viewers.

It continues to provide compelling viewing every weekday at 6.30pm.

While many people were sceptical as to whether the soapie would make it where Backstage, its predecessor, had failed, it has actually thrived, competing well with Isidingo, which is in the same time slot.

Set in the vibrant music industry, the soapie takes a fast and hard look at the highs and lows of the music biz.

Rhythm City' s characters are continually climbing on - or falling off - the fame wagon. They are the power brokers of the industry, whether they are record promoters, producers, agents, managers - or media players.

The show has a core cast (including real-life singers KB, Pam Andrews and Kelly Khumalo) and its production team has top scriptwriters and directors who have true talent. Big-name musicians and celebs such as Gumshev and HHP, are also visitors to the soapie.

Key cast members include Peter Se-Puma, Lucia Mthiyane, Jamie Bartlett, KB, Connie Chiume, Zenzo Ngqobe, Lungile Radu, Setlhabi Taunyane, Pam Andrews, Wright Ngubeni, Mpho Molepo, Mduduzi Mabaso, Relebogile Mabotja and Nokuthula Ledwaba.

The success of the soapie is quite surprising in that its format is not that different from Backstage - perhaps it's simply a matter of RhythmCity having come at just the right time?
