A SENIOR municipality official and an attorney have been arrested for alleged corruption and fraud involving a R200000 tender in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

A SENIOR municipality official and an attorney have been arrested for alleged corruption and fraud involving a R200000 tender in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

The police's Senior Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said the two were arrested in connection with a tender that was allegedly issued to the attorney's company fraudulently.

Fatyela said: "Other people's signatures were forged and the attorney's company claimed payment for a job that was not done."

He added that the council official - a director - and the lawyer would appear in the Mthatha magistrate's court to face charges of fraud, forgery, violating the Competitions Act, corruption and money laundering. - Sapa
