The party's leaders are expected to put finishing touches to Cope's constitution in Cape Town. Lekota was in Durban last weekend to meet provincial leaders and to help defuse divisions in the party, manifested in a sudden wave of dissenting views by members.
A group of disgruntled members reportedly met in Durban before last week's by-elections in which the party failed dismally. The dissenters have laid formal complaints with provincial leaders, complaining that minorities have been sidelined and that internal debate has been stifled.
Provincial secretary Phillip Mhlongo was mum yesterday about what was discussed at the meeting with Lekota.
"There's nothing much to say about our meeting except that it was about the acceleration of launching branches. The president will come to the province soon after the NEC meeting because there are some pending issues that need to be resolved," he said.
