Minister gives an ultimatum

PUBLIC Service and Administration Minister Richard Baloyi has given striking doctors an ultimatum: sign the government's wage offer today or government will implement it anyway.

PUBLIC Service and Administration Minister Richard Baloyi has given striking doctors an ultimatum: sign the government's wage offer today or government will implement it anyway.

"We set ourselves a target to conclude the occupation specific dispensation increase negotiations today and this is not negotiable," he told reporters at the Union Buildings yesterday.

"Where you are doing something and at the same time you find people not prepared to participate, that is then a recipe for disaster for the country and cannot be tolerated," Baloyi said.

About 300 striking doctors, pharmacists and specialists protested outside Groote Schuur Hospital yesterday. They said they would only go back to work when they got a 50percent wage increase.
