ATHLETICS South Africa has congratulated the organising committee for putting the country on the international map with a spectacular 2009 Confederations Cup.

ATHLETICS South Africa has congratulated the organising committee for putting the country on the international map with a spectacular 2009 Confederations Cup.

"A big thank you to the organising committee for a job well done. South Africa has sent a loud and clear message across the globe through this tournament, that we are ready for the 2010 World Cup," said Leonard Chuene, ASA president.

"With a leader par excellence in Irvin Khoza in charge as chairman of the organising committee, there is no way we are going to fail in 2010 too. The Premier Soccer League is now rated among the top 10 premiership divisions in the world.

"We were also impressed by the stance adopted by Fifa president Sepp Blatter that the world must once and for all trust South Africa and Africa to deliver a great 2010 World Cup. Soccer greats like Kaka, Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto'o and Franz Beckenbauer have also been singing South Africa's praises for the 2010 World Cup. It is also important for us as Africans to believe in ourselves."
