Intensive Brazil camp for Bafana

THE SA Football Association is sending Bafana Bafana to Brazil early next year for an intensive training camp to prepare for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

THE SA Football Association is sending Bafana Bafana to Brazil early next year for an intensive training camp to prepare for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

Dates for this month-long camp are still being discussed by Bafana Bafana management and technical staff, Sowetan has learnt.

Coach Joel Santana wants it in January because the Premier Soccer League will be on a month-long break to accommodate the African Cup of Nations finals in Angola. Bafana did not qualify.

It is understood that Safa are of the view that Bafana must go to Brazil in March when the PSL's 2009/2010 season is over.

According to Safa chairman, Irvin Khoza, the league will finish at the end of February to give Bafana adequate time to prepare for the 2010 World Cup finals.

Bafana team manager Sipho Nkumane said it was true that plans were at an advanced stage for the team to go to Brazil.

Safa chief executive, Raymond Hack, said they would announce the final preparations schedule once Santana had chosen his squad for the World Cup.
