DESMOND Golding has resigned as Mpumalanga's World Cup deputy director- general.

This was confirmed yesterday by Janine Jules, Mpumalanga provincial spokesperson for 2010.

"Golding has departed his post as Mpumalanga's World Cup deputy director- general. He is going to take a new post as an economic adviser to the minister of public works, Jeff Doidge," she said.

"We are saddened by his departure but at the same time wish him well. He has been instrumental in so many successes in the Mpumalanga World Cup 2010 preparations.

"He took part in developing the first provincial master plan for 2010 in the country, which was subsequently adopted by many other provinces in the country. He also facilitated infrastructure investment for 2010 in the province."

Golding was not available for comment.
