TV ACTOR Maurice Paige has been voted one of the sexiest men in Mzansi, to which he retorts: "No ways, I'm not sexy."

Paige, who plays Calvin Xavier in the popular soapie Isidingo, was born in Cape Town, where he lived with his mother on the Cape Flats.

But he spent most of his childhood and teenage years with his great-grandmother on a small farm in Heidelberg.

"Cape Town and the Cape Flats were a bit too rough. I was confronted by a lot of wrongdoings and I just couldn't see myself living in that kind of environment," he says about this time.

Paige says his great-grandmother gave him a solid grounding.

"She gave me a certain type of mind-set, a type of energy," he explains

"She never made me worry about anything, because anything can go wrong."

Of his character in the soapie, Paige says: "There is a lot that is evolving with the script and my character. All I can say is - keep watching."

Judging from the barman's uniform we saw in Paige's dressing room we can expect to see more of him keeping things "shaken, not stirred" at the Duncan Hotel Bar.

We can also expect to see him shaking things up on the hip-hop dance floors since he is now recording songs for his debut album.

Working with the likes of Bongani Fassie, he anticipates the release of his album to coincide with his birthday in September this year.
