Six people have been murdered in the region over the past few months.
In the latest killing three members of the Sikhakhane family were murdered in their sleep at home in Gunqu village.
Ntombama Sikhakhane, 70, Mfaniseni Nkomo, 18, and four-year-old Anele Sikhakhane were found dead on Tuesday. One family member, Mbongeni Sikhakhane, 49, survived the attack.
Locals believe the killings are politically motivated.
IFP deputy chairperson Blessed Gwala said it's not true that the ANC has invited them to a round table discussion to bring peace to the region.
"What happened is that at the sitting of the legislature Premier Zweli Mkhize, announced that he had appointed a team, consisting of ANC MECs Bheki Cele and Willies Mchunu, to work on the peace mission at uMvoti.
"The IFP objected to an exclusively ANC team because violence affects our members as well," Gwala said.
He said it was as a result of their objections that the peace team was expanded to include two IFP MPLs Bonginkosi Buthelezi and himself.
Meanwhile, a suspect in the murder of three Sikhakhane family members appeared in Greytown magistrate's court yesterday.
Msawenkosi Ngcobo, 29, was arrested a day after the killing of the Sikhakhanes.
The case was postponed for a formal bail application and to allow him to get legal representation.
