THE South African Revenue Service is encouraging taxpayers to make use of the technology available to them and file online.

The tax collector has already sent out SMSes and e-mails reminding registered taxpayers of the tax season that starts in July.

Spokesperson Adrian Lackey says the method is cost efficient and encourages people to file over the Internet.

"The number of registered taxpayers on the Sars e-filling online is now close to two million, and it's growing substantially," Lackey says.

He says this method was introduced two years ago.

"This is meant to make filling fast and cheaper.

"One is not required to go and stand in the long queue if they have access to the Internet," Lackey says.
