Fire these lazy cops- villagers

VILLAGERS at GaKgapane in the Bolobedu area yesterday protested against what they said were "lazy police officers" after the discovery of the decomposed body of a man who went missing three weeks ago.

VILLAGERS at GaKgapane in the Bolobedu area yesterday protested against what they said were "lazy police officers" after the discovery of the decomposed body of a man who went missing three weeks ago.

The body of Lehlodi Mohale, 74,pictured, was discovered near a farm in Modjadjiskloof on Tuesday.

Soon after the discovery the villagers accused the Bolobedu police of having dragged their feet before finding the body.

They accused the police of shifting their duties to the community, which spent sleepless nights searching for Mohale.

They marched to the police station after the discovery of the body and demanded the station's management to close or fire those investigating the case.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Eliot Ramothopa said they were angry because "the police failed to do their job. We had to look for Mohale ourselves".

Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said Mohale had been involved in a car accident a few kilometres fromGaKgapane, where a man was killed and two others were seriously injured. Investigations had revealed that Mohale had not been involved in the accident.

He said a case of a missing person was initially opened at Bolobedu police station.

It was later forwarded to Modjadjiskloof police because the body was discovered in their policing area.

He said the case might change to murder depending on the outcome of the investigations.
