Blowing vuvuzelas is part of our culture and a way of expressing ourselves and showing our support for our football players . We combine vuvuzelas and chants to encourage our players.
Safa has never complained or banned vuvuzelas nor has CAF banned them. So why do we have to ban them because the Europeans are complaining about their , which they describe as noisy?
Who are the Europeans to decide what an African World Cup should and should not have. I am not being rude or aggressive towards Europeans but I think it is time we stood up and defended our way of doing things, not only in sports but in everything.
It is true that we need support from European countries, economically, technologically and financially, but that does not mean we have to bow to everything they say or allow them to take decisions on our behalf, like France still does with its former colonies.
My message to the World Cup organising committee is plain and simple: you are not going to ban vuvuzelas in 2010 or in any other tournament in South Africa.
Haven't you learnt from the failed complicated Western method of selling tickets? Fifa ended up giving in to our way of doing things and after that tickets sold like hot cakes.
It is time Africans stood up and resisted any type of intimidation from Europeans. Our dignity, respect and methods are being misinterpreted as irresponsible and inadequate but we are capable of spearheading our own events successfully.
Let us keep blowing our vuvuzelas. We enjoy them and they make football exciting.
