Two men had been swindling thousands of rands from the poor under the pretext that they would be given jobs at the Dundee Hospital.
Unemployed youths were persuaded to pay R5000 each in order to get a job in the hospital.
Desperate youth were cheated into depositing money into a certain account wit the promise of a four-year course with the department of health.
The con artists promised poor youths that they would receive training and be paid until they finished the course.
It appears that the victims had initially gone to an employment agency in Newcastle and left their CVs and contact details there.
It's alleged that the conmen stole the list with the names of the people awaiting employment and used it to access the numbers and names of people.
The men believed to be masterminds are linked to fraud cases involving thousands of rands.
Police spokesperson Shooz Magudulela said the suspects gave text massages from the cellphone number 071-644-7186 requesting that an amount of R5000 be deposited into a bank account before the process of employment could start.
"The men used different account numbers. And after receiving the cash, they will then go to the next person."
Police are investigating a theft case.
