Yesterday he presented a R1,4million budget speech at the Lebowakgomo legislative chambers aimed at reducing the housing backlogs and speed up unfinished housing projects abandoned during the previous financial year.
Lekganyane also announced that housing and local government have been allocated R1,06 million and R145 million respectively.
He said the department had committed itself to the acceleration of infrastructure development by setting aside R3,7billion for this project.
This project would focus on the construction of 3000 homes under rural housing programmes, the construction of 50 units towards the creation of an Agri-Village for farm-workers and 100 units under community residential housing.
The MEC confirmed that the department would unblock more than 3210 stalled projects and fast-track the process of informal settlement upgrading by completing more than 7000 housing units in this financial year.
