Baby Boks make meal of hapless Baby Aussies to come third

THE South African Under-20 team put up a top-notch performance to claim third spot of the International Rugby Board Junior World Champions after routing Australia 32-5 in Tokyo, Japan, yesterday.

It was a fantastic ending for the home boys, who put up their disappointing performance behind them when they beat England 40-21 in the semifinals last week.

SA coach Eric Sauls praised his charges for executing everything according to the game plan despite the rainy and wet condition.

Said an ecstatic Sauls: "It was difficult for the youngsters to get back on track after being kicked out of the semifinals by England last Thursday.

"But they showed commitment and brilliance throughout the match and dominated set-pieces under adverse weather."

After trailing 18-5 in the first period, the Baby Aussies took control of the game as they made several inroads into their opponents half-way line.

They attacked with aggression as they fought tigerishly to break through SA defence in a bid to score runs.

But the latter defence stood firm under pressure as they closed their forwards down with good tackles.

Francois Brummer scored 12 runs for the home side. SA scorers: Tries - Lionel Cronje (2), Gerhard van den Heever, Nicolaas Hanekom; Conversions: Francois Brummer (3); Penalties: Brummer (2).

Australia - Try: Albert Anae.
