IT IS apparent to all that the financial predicament of the South African Broadcasting Corporation warrants urgent and extraordinary measures to remedy the situation.

More delays and fidgeting by government can only exacerbate the crisis, which is why Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda must expedite the appointment of the interim board to stabilise the sinking ship.

This development must be followed by the appointment of a hard-nosed business leader who will not only rein in rampant spending but also re-engineer SABC business processes while providing visionary leadership for the corporation.

No longer should the ANC treat the SABC as a redeployment centre for political appointees with no experience of running any business or a corporation the size of the public broadcaster.
