CAN somebody please remind Pieter Mulder that ethnicity is totally not welcome in a democratic society such as South Africa.

I think that the man is still hanging onto those old colour-bar Acts.

How can he say that Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande is trying to anglicise Stellenbosch and Potchefstroom universities by replacing Afrikaans with English as a medium of instruction?

Mulder, pictured, claims that because these universities are situated in predominantly Afrikaans-speaking areas, Afrikaans should be the medium of instruction. Is he aware that those two universities have students from abroad and where Afrikaans is not even known, let alone spoken? Is he suggesting that because Fort Hare is in Eastern Cape, the medium of instruction should be Xhosa, University of Limpopo in Turfloop is near Polokwane, the medium should be Sepedi and University of Venda is in Venda, TshiVenda should be the medium?

Mulder must check his facts before he makes myopic public comments. This is South Africa and we are moving forward.

English should be the medium of instruction in all South African universities since we are part of the global family - even though I hate the language.
