Mixed feelings for shuttle service

OPINIONS are divided on the efficiency of the Confederations Cup park and ride arrangement for soccer fans. While some have praised it, others have been left stranded hours after the games ended.

OPINIONS are divided on the efficiency of the Confederations Cup park and ride arrangement for soccer fans. While some have praised it, others have been left stranded hours after the games ended.

Carycea Lamarque, who attended the Confederations Cup game at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, said: "We arrived on time for the game.

Complete chaos

"However, it was complete chaos getting home, none of us knew where to wait for the buses. We were sent from one side of the stadium to the other."

Lamarque said most of the people using the park and ride facility left their cars at Wits West Campus so the problem was that there were not enough buses taking people back to the university.

Efficiency

But another soccer fan Sydney Senker said he was impressed with the efficiency with which the park and ride system operated.

"We left our vehicles at the Northgate Dome and everything was very well organised.

"When the game was over, I went straight to the South East gate and there were ample buses waiting to take us back to our cars," Senker said.

Sharon Webb owns two taxis servicing the Nasrec Expo Centre drop-off and pick-up point.

Her only problem is that it is difficult to predict the number of passengers that will show up.
