Storm clouds gathering fast

EXCITEMENT is guaranteed when young, fearless and ferocious punchers, Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen and Jared "The Storm" Lovett collide next month.

EXCITEMENT is guaranteed when young, fearless and ferocious punchers, Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen and Jared "The Storm" Lovett collide next month.

These triphammer-fisted young fighters, who have left six of their opponents counting the stars in their promising fisticuffs careers, will fight for the IBO Youth light heavyweight belt.

This strap is contested for by fighters under 23 years old. Oosthuizen and Lovett are both 22 years old.

Promoter Rodney Berman, whose Golden Gloves company will stage this fight on July 11 at Emperors Palace, assured the fighters that there would be no loser.

"I am paying them purse money equivalent to what national light heavyweight champions get," he said.

It is estimated around R120000. The left-handed Oosthuizen is under trainer Harold Volbrecht in Benoni while Lovett, a right hander from the south of Johannesburg, is trained by Colin Nathan.

Analyst Terry Pettifer said trainers Manny Fernandez and Benny Pailman, commentator Andries Steyn and retired boxing administrator Stanely Sono tipped Oosthuizen to have more guns while Jeff Ellis said the storm would be too strong.

The main bout pits Philip "Time Bomb" Ndou and Lovemore "Black Panther" Ndou (no relations) for the IBO welterweight vacant belt. Simphiwe "V12" Vetyeka will oppose Filipino Eric Barcelona also for an IBO vacant bantamweight strap.
